About YWAM

YWAM is an international movement of Christians from many denominations committed to serving Jesus throughout the world.  Also known as YWAM  (pronounced Y-Wam)  our calling is to know God and to make Him known.  Beginning in 1960, the main focus was to get youth into short-term mission work.  Today we still focus on youth and now also involve people of almost every age, even many people who choose to spend their "retirement" in active service. YWAM is currently working in over 900 locations in 150 countries, with a staff of over 16,000.  Our many ministries fit into three main categories: evangelism, training and mercy ministry.

In addition to our full-time staff, many YWAM locations host short-term outreach teams made up of individuals, youth groups, families and churches who get to participate first-hand in "making God known" through both words and actions. We send out over 25,000 short-term missionaries each year.

YWAM Statement of Purpose

Youth With A Mission is an international movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to presenting Jesus Christ personally to this generation, to mobilize as many as possible to help in this task, and to the training and equipping of believers for their part in fulfilling the Great Commission.  As Christians of God's Kingdom,  we are called to love, worship, and obey our Lord, to love the Church, and to present the whole Gospel for the whole man throughout the whole world.

We believe that the Bible is God's inspired and authoritative word, revealing that Jesus Christ is God's Son, that man is created in God's image, that He created us to have eternal life through Jesus Christ, that although all men have sinned and come short of God's glory, God has made salvation possible through the death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that repentance, faith, love, and obedience are fitting responses to God's initiative of grace toward us, that God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth, and that the Holy Spirit's power is demonstrated in and through us for the accomplishing of Christ's last commandment,

"Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature."   Mark 16:15

We are all ages, young people, families, and retired persons.  We come from many ethnic and educational backgrounds, from many denominations and from over 130 countries.  We love Jesus and thank God for allowing us to play our part in helping to fulfil the Great Commission. Each year 100,000  people people are involved in short-term work while over 16,000 of us work as permanent staff in 900 operating locations in 165  nations. In many of our locations, people from a wide variety of nations serve side by side.  We come from numerous different Christian denominations and speak hundreds of languages. Nearly half our staff come from "non-western" countries, such as Brazil, Korea, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Ghana, and  Uganda.  No one in YWAM receives a salary.  Each of us, from the newest volunteer to the President, is responsible to raise financial support from a home church, friends, and family.
